Facts about the toon! (newcastle upon tyne) Part 2

Many great people love and come from newcastle upon tyne but lets talk about the famous people that are geordies!

There are many people but some may surprise you:

Guitarist Jimi Hendrix was not only discovered by Geordie producer Chas Chandler, he also busked in Heaton Chillingham Road.

Comedian Rowan Atkinson (AKA Mr Bean) who is in many movies along with being one of the most famous. He was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, 1955. He studied Electrical engineering at Newcastle University before he pursued a career as a comedian.

Singer Cheryl from the group Girls Aloud, is from byker but grew up in walker and attended at walker technology college

Sting was Born Gordon Sumner, Sting is a singer/songwriter who became famous as a member of the Police. He grew up not far from the ship yards 1951. Now a solo artist, Sting reportedly got his nickname due to a black & yellow striped jumper he used to wear. 

George Stephenson, the ‘Father of Railways’, was a Geordie.

TV presenters Ant & Dec are from byker and initially started their career on byker grove playing role of PJ & Duncan. Now they are loved and watched by most of the uk.

Peter Beardsley was an England & Newcastle United footballer. Born in Newcastle in 1961 he was actually signed to NUFC on 3 separate occasions and was awarded an MBE for services to football in 1995.

Eric Burdon Singer/Songwriter with The Animals who had hits with songs such as Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood & the House of the Rising Sun, Eric Burdon was voted 57th in Rolling Stones 100 greatest singers of all time. Now a solo artist he was born in Walker, 1941.

Chas Chandler Bass player with The Animals but also manager of Jimi hendrix & Slade.  He was also a driving force behind what is now the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle.  Born in Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne, 1938.

Charlie Hardwick Actress famous for playing Val in Emmerdale since 2004. Byker Grove alumni, she has also worked extensively with Live theatre based on the Newcastle Quayside.

Tim Healy was an actor famous for playing Dennis in Auf wiedersehen Pet & more recently Les/Lesley in Benidorm. He was born in Benwall in 1952.

Hank Marvin born Brian Robson Rankin, is best known as the lead guitarist for the Shadows, the backing band for Cliff Richard. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, 1941.

Alan Shearer First & foremost a footballer but also a manager, & TV Pundit. Newcastle United paid £15 million for him in 1996 making him the world's most expensive footballer at the time. Born in Gosforth, 1970.

Neil Tennant Musician, singer/songwriter & wearer of 'interesting outfits'. Neil Tennant makes up one half of the Pet shop boys. Born in Gosforth, 1954.

Jane and Louise Wilson Born in Newcastle in 1967, the Wilson twins are video artists who work together as a duo. Their exhibition "Gamma" was nominated in 1999 for the Turner Prize.
